Chose a NZ Chardonnay. We can recommend seafood chowder and lamb shank Almost consider 1908 Cafe to be a find.
More of a nice restaurant with a quaint old feel than a cafe, in my opinion! Delicious food, and a wonderful date spot.
My wife and I dined here recently and found the setting of the restaurant next to the harbour was lovely and the service was friendly and efficient. My wife found the spicy parsnip soup was tasty and fully of flavour. However, the garlic bread I had was soggy and not at all enjoyable. We both had rib-eye steak for mains and found that the steak was slightly tough and the overall flavour balance out of sorts, as the tomato base it was served on overpowered the meal. The meal also lacked any form of crispy texture and we were surprised to discover that you needed to order a side serve of vegetables at extra cost. Overall I think I would be prepared to eat here again due to the lovely setting but would not order the steak again.
Diamond in the rough. From the outside it appears as just a slightly larger than normal cafe. Once inside however it's a very intimate dinner spot with several rooms with tables and a very down to earth feel. The food was excellent! We had the chicken venison that are pictured. Definitely was one of our favorite meals in Dunedin. Beautifully prepared and excellent tasting. Highly recommend stopping in for dinner if you're out on the peninsula.
