It's also conveniently located at Robinson's Dumaguete. The staff is also very helpful and advises you honestly on the freshness of the fish in case you want to order fresh seafood for kinilaw.
"Hukad" which means "serve" is a restaurant that serves unlimited rice with a big laddle . The restaurant is best known for their Filipino dishes. In fact, they have several branches in Visayas and Mindanao. Our favorite here includes Tinolang tangigue , crispy pata, adobong kangkong, grilled tuna belly, pork barbecue and a lot more. The place is located inside Robinson's in Dumaguete. So it is convenient especially for families or friends. The staff are accommodating and service oriented. The price of foods are moderate to pricey. Depending on what food you order.
We brought out Swedish friend to try out Filipino food here. He happens to also be vegetarian which seemed ok with great filo dishes we know of.The food wasn't that exceptional. The Laing was far from the good Laing we know and the Adobong Talong was ok. The Ngo Hiong rolls were ok also. But everything we ordered for the price we paid didn't seem worth it.
Not especially good but not bad. With usual Filipino food fare, there is nothing that differentiates Hukad from any other local restaurants. It's got the usual Pinoy food fare. Tried before their pritchon & other "specialties" and was not really impressed. Tried this time the other meals in the menu. Following in the order they arrived from the kitchen 1. Pancit guisado - nice, a bit dark maybe from soy sauce. OK2. White steamed rice - unlimited 3. Adobong pusit - good but is that one squid? So little serving 4. Crispy dinuguan - a distant third from the Kanin Club specialty5. Tinunuang Nanka- others said it was good, wouldn't know. I don't eat this fare 6. Deep Fried Liempo - crispy almost lechon kawali like. Gave Mang Tomas sauce when asked if served with gravy7. Sizzling bangus - served on hot plate Over all, satisfied with service & food quality and a nice restaurant by Dumaguete standards.
Got some cold desserts for it was a scorching hot summer day and there was no electricity in the city. Ordered the 3 different kinds of halo-halo and it was heavenly, fluffy, sweet and filled with surprises. The wait was a bit longer than expected though.
