I was just told that they were not open today and they hotel clerk left without an apology or an offer to assist us to find another restaurant as we had made a stop while heading to Quebec city.
Had a hard time getting across "je suis celiac, pas du gluten" rusty french. But managed to muddle my way to an omelette. But it was a lovely filling vegetables filled Herby delight! Bon appetit.
We stayed at the hotel Le Dauphin and the Globe-Trotter restaurant is the restaurant hotel. The menu is elaborate , the personnel is friendly and it is within budget. My wife took the shrimp dish and I took the papardelle with braised pull beef. It was really good.
The dinner menu is not extensive and the fixed course offerings are different than what is written. But the food is very good. The dishes are not haute cuisine, but they are thoughtful variations on things you have had before. The wine list is more than decent, but not extensive. Also had breakfast here that was excellent. Again, variations on common themes. Friendly waitstaff.
The hotel where Globe-Trotter is located is slightly tired and the dining room is not matching the quality of the food. In fact the food is lovely, healthy and very reasonably priced. Add to this the smile of everyone on staff and you will enjoy your dinner. We had a very good césar salad and a wonderful pappardelle with braised beef and fresh arugula. I have eaten at this restaurant often over the years, but I am convinced there was a change in the kitchen and clearly it is paying off.
