To rest on one’s laurels and to react to justified criticism without the slightest understanding: not up to the self proclaimed standard of the Hotel Taschenberpalais and to the Kempinski management. Dried out snails/ not fresh tasting tuna— waiting for the main course for more...than fifty minutes( we were the only guests: this time disappointed and disillusioned:tge more that the f&b-manager in a conversation after the luncheon in the neighboring fish restaurant praised the quality of the cuisine and tried to react to our critical remarks with humour. The cremant and the wine were of good quality at least( but the praise goes to the wine estates and not so much to the “ bistro”. A positive evaluation: the pumpkin soup corresponded to our expectation/ the cesar salad and the fricasé poulet partially— contrary to the salad nicois. Regretfully, I had hailed the bistro beforehand as an excellent one to my American business- friends based on my previous visits. They were utterly disappointed.
We had Abendessen at Palais Bistro in connection with a concert at Der Zwinger and were treated a three course menu consisting of salad with duck, asparagus with two different sorts of ham (cooked and cured) and tiramisu. The salad and the asparagus were nice...enough, but the tiramisu didn´t at all taste like the original one. At this bistro the waiter keeps the wine bottle, which of course is all right if he or she has the time to keep an eye on your glass to make sure it won´t get empty, at least not for a long time. Here my glass stood empty quite a few times which must be regarded as inadequate service.
Quiet comfortable restaurant, good menu choices and nice to have the option of small or full portions, good wine list but well marked up. On the night we visited, we were greeted by a charming young waiter and waitress, given a choice of tables, so...far so impressive until..a glum unhelpful girl came to take our food and drink orders. The drinks which eventually arrived were placed on the table without comment. She proceeded to deliver the food (which was excellent) and to clear the table in a robotic manner, avoided all eye contact, and then disappeared. At this point having decided to take our dessert and coffee business elsewhere, we had to go look for her in order to pay the bill which seemed to cause another vale of sorrow...While we enjoyed the ambience and the food, the interpersonal/ service element was sadly lacking in one so young, and should be of concern to management.
Eating is just as good as any French restaurant where I've ever eaten. fabulous rindfleisch bourguignon, coq au vin, tasty desserts, great service, beautiful atmosphere.
