It's a classic old school pizza shop..circa 1970's...not nice to see....Character behind the counter...that really do a good order from the door when considering how busy they are....and busy for good reason...good cheese steak(best I found locally and I made from cheese steak land)...pizza meets the place... I like the place and go there
After a 10 year hiatus, I decided to give Italian Village another try, as what had been great, went bad with the passing of the owner, but I noticed the reviews had bounced back, so... Ordering the Porketta with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone and an Italian Hoagie, they have improved. The porketta was tender and wet (as it should be), the rabe was also tender and not bitter. The sharp provolone wasn't very sharp however, and so wasn't very distinct. The Italian Hoagie was fresh and properly packed and layered. In fairness, I will return soon to validate this revision.
Maybe 3.5 stars ? Would be ok giving it a 4 for their pizza but there is too much competition in this space and standards have to be high. Was convenient so gave the place a try. Plain cheese pizza acceptable quality but not super. Generous with cheese. Bread/crust could have been cooked a little longer. Sauce bland, tasted just like tomato sauce from a can without any added seasoning. Place mostly good for picking up beer. But I would try them again if I am close by.
Great place for subs. Hot or cold they're always delicious. Calzones and Stromboli are also top notch. I visit this place at least one a week. Try the hot roast beef. It's homemade and prepared as you wait. Sandwich won't sit around on the counter and get soggy. They know what their doing. I haven't tried the pizza but it smells good whenever I'm in the store. They have a good selection of beers and adult slushies to go. Bonus! Give them a try if your in our near the Downingtown/Thorndale/Caln area.
We have had the pizza, Italian hoagies, and cheese steaks, and all have been superb and legit, the type of quality you get in Philly. The Italian hoagies has that genuine hoagie taste, I will be trying other things in the future. The folks at the checkout counter are very nice. They have a handful of tables. The décor is plain but functional, and they have a good collection of six packs and other offerings in the fridges.
