We'll be back!
On indication of local people we had dinner in this old tavern. food and wines are superlative. be advised by the young sommelier and you will not be disappointed. the cook prepares dishes of the local tradition with great goto and lightness. 10 and praise.
In my view the meal we had was not value for money. My husband had lamb pieces on skewers. The meat pieces were tiny and somewhat dry. The skewers were served upright in a traditional wine jug. I had crumbed pork with potatoes. The meat covered a slate serving plate but was not particularly flavoursome. The potatoes were ok, if a touch dry.
This review is written with regret with the sole objective of sparing readers a disappointing experience. To be sure, the rural setting is a pleasant change from the crowded tourist sites on the lakeside and the vegetables are home grown. But the four dishes we sampled ranged from the mediocre to the inedible, the latter referring to meat that was so tough and fatty that it was impossible to eat. To be told that if we knew anything about Italian food we would have known that mutton would be like that added insult to injury. It is hard to eat badly in Italy and harder still to be left with a sour feeling from the know-it-all attitude of the staff, on the edge of discourtesy. But, sadly, after years of travelling and eating out in Italy this was our experience at the Aquila d'Oro.
As a big foodie Aquila D'aoro is one of those rare finds you dream of finding delicous original food , great wine, lovely service just go ! The salumi and bresaola were locally made in the antipasta , the primi piatti of pasta were the best my kids (18 /15) had tasted on holiday and the mains were good too the troat and frest salad were yummy , the wild boar was slightly dry but i think that's normal for boar and the lambchops were just divine.
