La Posta - DOMODOSSOLA

I must commend not only the food at La Posta restaurant in Baveno but also the exceptional service. After our meal on Friday evening (14th June) it was pouring with rain and unable to get any taxis, our waiter, Jeremy went for his car and brought us back to the hotel. The food is great value and they have an excellent selection of wines. This was our 3rd visit and it was as good each time.

Took the fixed menu of the day for 17€. Had pasta for first course, salmon carpaccio for second. First course was ok but not great. Second course was a huge disappointment. Slices of smoked salmon on strips of lettuce! No sides (despite the menu saying dishes came with potatoes and vegetables) until I asked. Was given a small plate of chips. Wine included was like vinegar. There are many better places. Give it a miss!

Recommended by our host at Residenza Irma, just around the corner, for a residents’ special offer, we dined on simple but fresh and tasty pasta, pizza and salads with a jug of house wine and plenty of beers for under €100 for 4 adults. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food delicious, and we loved the simplicity and authenticity of proper Italian food. The calzone was great and the spaghetti with clams among the best I’d had. Don’t expect refinement but do expect satisfying food and a lovely welcome.
