Bert's Market Place - Detroit

I haven't eaten there for a few years, so I was excited when a friend suggested we eat there. the atmosphere of the eastern market we loved outside. the dinge went south when we got our food. everything came into transport containers in a plastic bag. the waitress who was a shady said they have done it since the pandemic. we laughed and said we enjoy our time here. eating was okay, but it wasn't as good as being. the green beans were very salty. I couldn't eat them all. the fleischtau seemed overcooked. at least the atmosphere and the waitress were great.

As a person who is from the south, berts marketplace has every note of the ancestors and every bit of their food. I have the grill chicken with crisped greens and red beans and rice, and every bite of this food made me feel like I'm back home. eating was so good at the point where I literally asked to speak with all who work in the kitchen and I had to express how eating made me feel. Note: do not go to bert when they have something to do and their day. you will eat this and be sleepy. and they will be absolutely surprised to know that the recipes of this restaurant in the brilliant spirit of a millennial. this place is absolutely unbelievable and worth every dollar that is spent.

Amazing energy. if there's something more relaxed upbeat, this is here! I have to meet the owner and he gave me history and tour. his father was bert. the dj was funny and the dancers to watch was entertaining. they had a vegan burger to order for me! one must go.

The fried catfish dinner with mac n cheese and fries ordered. the fish was muddy underboiled, the Macn cheese had no spice was so runny that they had to use a spoon to pick it up. there was no tarter sauce, hot sauce or even ketchup. the carrot cake was obviously not homemade, stale and the band was definitiw not worth $7.00. bert was previously known for good seafaring. Guess this has gone with bert. what a waste of money!

I don't like leaving bad reviews. This is my first one ever. But maybe I can save someone else the time and money. Went today for lunch. Service was awful. After waiting for an hour for our meals they came out in carry out containers. But this is the thing. The food was foul as hell. They are charging $3 for flat 8oz plastic cup of pop, then if you ask for a refill you get charged another$3. Our bill had $21 worth of pop charges alone for 3 people. $11.99 for 9 fried mushrooms with no seasoning and 3 of them were oil filled batter only. 1 ranch for 2 appetizers. It sucked. Do better Bert's. You guys have no excuse for any of that. Don't sell food if you can't make it right. I have many memories from when I was younger eating there with my aunt and uncle when he was a farmer who sold produce at the market. How disappointing. Enjoy my money you didn't earn. Gross food. Bad service. Ridiculous prices.
