A hidden gem off of 3rd street in Midtown!People, I’m going to need you to venture a block or two off of Woodward and Cass to sample some of Detroit’s best eateries.I had the pleasure of *literally* stumbling into Awake following a weekend morning run. Not only was their food tasty (I was a fan of my avocado toast and oranges their delicious homemade granola bar) but the staff has actually started to create our running crew specialty items like Runners Toast (avo toast with egg) for some of our regulars. This friendly, home like atmosphere is felt the second you step foot in the shop.We were told by the staff that Awake doesn’t have a singular owner and actually functions as a collective model which was really cool! And it’s always nice to support a local business rather than a large chain. The back room has a plethora of books and board games for you to try out as well as some comfy seating. In sum, this is a great cafe/coffee shop but also just a really neat spot to hang out or meet up with friends.Street parking is available.
This was first visit to this quaint cafe. The staff is very friendly and full of positive energy. The decor is simple, old style and airy. There are two dining/comfort areas. There’s seating to dine as well as sofa and comfy chair seating. The menu is simple, not unnecessarily overwhelming. I was going to get a carry-out but after finally finding a place to park (construction) and receiving such a warm welcome, I decided to dine in. I had an awesome conversation with a college student from Arizona who’s interning as part of her Cultural Diversity program. I enjoyed The Canfield sandwich and a Cold Chai beverage. Typically, I eat half of a sandwich and take the other half to go…I couldn’t resist eating the whole sandwich. When you eat real food, good food that isn’t filled with trash but better ingredients…I did not feel stuffed or uncomfortable at all. They also offer cookies, brownies and breakfast items as well as a small cooler with other beverages like ginger teas that are made locally. This cafe was definitely worth the parking inconvenience and the one block walk in the heat. I will definitely go back to try other menu items and repeat the same order as well. If you want a quaint, quiet place to eat and/or have coffee or tea, this is the place.Parking: Currently construction makes it difficult to find parking. They do not have off-street parking.
Lovely spot mid town Detroit. Welcoming, clean, good coffee and great baked goods. Ethically sourced beans. Will come again,
Well, this was a VERY pleasant surprise. I was definitely not expecting this little cafe I found online so be so cozy and aesthetic! I ordered a hazelnut oatmilk latte that came with a heart which was adorable! It was very smooth and delicious, the flavor was really rich! I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie warmed up, very soft and gooey. The baristas were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere DEFINES cozy. I almost fell asleep in the chair by the fireplace, there’s many seating options as well as two fireplaces, some greenery, and a whole other space for seating. Definitely want to come back!
