Very lovely set restaurant by the Leie river. Gorgeous summer terrace and good, classic Belgian cuisine.

Being a diner at Nenuphar was the most unusual, disrespectful experience I have ever had. The waiter took a long time to visit the table and then literally leaned down and put his face pointedly into ours. We asked a question. He replied, You don 't know what you want and proceeded to walk away. When inquiring about an item on the menu, he condescended, We are a Michelin restaurant! You are in Belgium. You order a Flemish dish. (I was in need of translation and wondered if a word translated Thai. He lifted his head, stood erect, and sputtered, I will be back in 5 minutes. He did another turnabout and left. He then proceeded to slowly visit each table before and around ours, apparently making an effort to ignore us. There were about 6 tables. We were seated outside. Wanting an answer and hoping to enjoy a lovely meal, I went inside. The female staff at the bar had been kind when we arrived. The tall, brown-haired waiter came into the restaurant, put his hand on firmly on my right shoulder, and turned my body around saying, They are busy. You don 't belong here. Go back to your table. I was incredulous. My husband, son, and I then corked our expensive bottle of wine, paid, and departed. Our initial humor over his behavior turned very sour and was shocking. We 've dined at true Michelin starred restaurants in San Francisco, London, and New York. Never have we experienced such arrogance and rudeness. Never could I imagine the wait staff at Daniel in New York with 4 Michelin stars behaving in this fashion. I cannot understand why Michelin would even rate this restaurant. It truly dilutes their brand. If you 're near the lovely village of Afsnee outside of Gent, Belgium stay away from Nenuphar. Drive a little further to Sint-Martens-Latem to find other welcoming dining establishments.
