If you want to go to the terrace, the square seems to be quite ordinary, but it is a reflection of Newfoundland's culture...ENJOY!
Stopped by for a couple of beers early on a Saturday night. If you like the old style, unformal, rough bar atmosphere this is the place in Deer Lake. It is a bar, not a restaurant. No fancy-pansy in her, just plain ole great atmosphere. All smiles, and no trouble at all. Loved it there!
Always a good time at the hideaway. It is a great place for private parties even though it is a bit small if you have a large crowd. the staff are friendly and funny. Karaoke night is the best!
I paid $8 to have a cab take me here from the Deer Lake Hotel because of the excellent reviews that I read on Trip Advisor. I was shocked when I walked through the door. This is a bar/pool hall/ casino. The people that have previously reviewed this place are no doing the customer or establishment any justice. The bartender actually apologized and recommended another restaurant. Cost me another $8 to drive around the block.
I happened upon the Hideaway Pub one afternoon on a recent trip to Deer Lake, in part to escape the record Newfoundland summer heat and partly because I had heard great things about the place.I was immediately taken by the cozy atmosphere and inviting ambiance. John, the bartender, recommended Dominion Ale which was a fine selection I was able to drink a few of them and enjoyed the fries, with ground beef, dressing, and gravy from the menu which was delicious! I spent a lazy afternoon enjoying John's conversation and listening to some old Rolling Stones songs. After that experience I returned a few nights later and, again, had a truly enjoyable time. The owners were there that night and they were as friendly and hospitable as John had been. Terri was working the bar and it was easy to see her rapport with her patrons. Her easy manner made everyone feel at home. The other member of the duo, Neville, was providing the music and did a great job with the selections and entertaining everyone. All in all I would give The Hideaway Pub more stars if I could. It is very inviting with excellent and personal customer service. By the time I left I felt like i'd known them all my life!
