Another important aspect is the wine list, full of good Hungarian wines and international excellence. This restaurant is definitely a must in Debrecen try for every food and wine lover!
I visited IKON again after 2 years and it still delivers exceptional quality. This time we ordered the 5-course menu with wine pairing, which I can highly recommend if you are in gourmet food. Meals all have a Hungarian turn I really liked. The wines all come from different parts of Hungary and they matched well to meals. Overall, the tasting menu is worth its price.
Ikon is located in the heart of the city, ideal for romantic dinners or business meetings. The menu is short, but promising, each plate delivers more than what you would guess from the description. Complex aromas and textures, with emphasis on the use of local and seasonal ingredients, the characteristic of a large kitchen. The team is professional, service and kitchen. If you have the opportunity to ask the cook about the food, try it, can and will talk about it with great enthusiasm and a very high level of professionalism. Service is impeccable, the staff is able to provide information about the different courses and recommendations when you feel indecision. They are also good with children (an additional point for a child menu). Excellent cocktails (not shy to ask for details. Prices are moderate, but definitely a big price/value ratio. Booking is recommended, especially for dinner and weekends. Come on!
This is my first business trip in Debrecen. I'm a French native, but I'm from the USA. I would say I'm pretty well versed in high-end cuisine from Western Europe, parts of Asia, as well as South-USA. I consider myself a food. Immediately this restaurant impresses. Very clean inside, perfect service. You feel that your experience will be great with local products and a large chef. A mix of traditional and modern. Staying in a nearby hotel, I came to this restaurant twice in 2 days. The first night was with a local colleague, also a foodie that recommended it. The second time was with my manager, she is from the Netherlands and knows good food. You didn't want to fool anyone from us. During my first dinner I enjoyed a soup with the sweet and hearty aromas of carrots, oranges and curry. A must try if you want to start with soup like me. Then I followed with a veal cheek dish, served with one side what I like to call Mac and cheese, but is actually so much better than the American dish. The cheeks melt in the mouth. This is refined comfort food. When I was my first night, I stopped there, well fed, but not crowded In the second night we pampered ourselves a little more. We shared a sea red foie grass appetizer with a combination of apricots and apricot ice cream as well as black pudding and probably a wine reduction of any kind, served with mini brooche toasts. The mixture of fat, salty and sweet was another winner. Really unique. If you are an American and only know about Foie Grass operated states page, you don't know Jack and you need to try. My second dinner entrée was a local pork dish recommended by my Hungarian colleague at night before. It is apparently a pig breed with fur that leads to a rich, moist meat. I confirm that it was very tasty, with excellent potato croquettes, pea puree and some other treats. Finally, the Pistachios Dessert was a great conclusion to my meal. A great place to try...
Nice place, very polite waiters, extremely good food, served in a modern inovative manner.
