The food is very nice, the restaurant is very cozy. It is one of the coolest places in Darmstadt. It is ideal to visit with friends or in couple it is very romantic. And they have sandwald bier!
We heard a lot about this location: small, very good kitchen, tough to catch a table. Finally we made it on short notice. As we had to wait for the table we settled at the bar and while sipping our Negroni and Sweet Viriginia (Meszcal, Vermouth, lime, agave syrup) chatted with the skilled barkeeper. Then we moved over to the small table, cramped into a line of tables-4-2 and a larger table at the end of the room. The menu is not too large (freshness of the products is king), around 4 appetizer, 5 main, 2 dessert. You can decide for a la carte or a menu (3 to 5 courses). The pricing is very reasonable! We started with a fresh salad and a quail (on lentils). Good products, well prepared, no comlaints.Followed by a soup of sorrel with small pieces of horseradish, an ice from sorrel on the side. The taste was perfect – I would not have missed the ice.3 courses made the deal: egg yolk hidden by black rice which was covered by parmesan (not my burner), scallops and salad with some fresh herbs like dead-nettle, mint,…. (OK).Looking a t the other tables: the Beef seemed to us the best course of the day.The wine selection is small, but sure you will find matching whites (we choose a Riesling from the Bergstrasse) and reds (Black Print from Schneider f.i.).The service was friendly, sometimes not so experienced (she started some days before). As the seating in the larger room (ambiente: fair) is quite tight it is pretty noisy.
