I was excited by the gluten-free menu online, but when I got to the restaurant the host told me they don 't have anything marked on their physical menus, but my server would be able to answer any questions. Server confirmed they make gluten-free items separately, so we got chips and salsa for the table, I ordered the brisket quesadilla and my partner ordered the burrito from the gluten free menu. Our server did inform us that the burrito could only be served in a bowl as the gluten free tortilla can 't be wrapped like a burrito. They didn 't announce anything as being gluten free when the items arrived and I had to ask about each item. Good thing I double checked because when we got a refill on the chips they were not gluten free and had to be sent back. I was also disappointed that the gluten-free menu is lumped in with the vegan and vegetarian menu so you have to read carefully what is actually gluten free. The menu also doesn 't list any details for the quesedilla and it came with really spicy sauce that got all over the plate, wish that had been on the menu description so I could have asked for that to be omitted, as it got on half the quesadilla. We also felt really rushed towards the end of our meal, our server did not seem pleased to offer us refills on the chips and was in a hurry to get us the check (even though the place was not packed, and the place has a chill vibe encouraging people to drink and socialize. I wish this place lived up to my expectations set by other reviewers. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options
Authentic Mexican food. Everything delicious and tasty. Great margaritas. Friendly service. $70 per couple. Whenever I'm in Philadelphia, I'll be back!!! Book a table in advance.
Went to El Rey for my birthday this year. Fantastic!!! My sister who is not crazy about Mexican food enjoyed her Chicken Enchilada and Zucchini blossom and Corn Quesadilla.(I knew she would) Chiles Relleno outstanding! Cocktails always a smash hit. It seemed like we ordered entire menu. The star of the show for me was The Nopales Salad. We ended the night with fantastic chocolate ice cream… a must try! Thanks El Rey for a great birthday dinner.
DEFINITELY reserve your spot before you go! Its a cute place but because of no reservations we had to be seated on a side table which became quite uncomfortable. However, The Happy hour here is incredible! Totally worth waiting for a table. Love the menu choices and the margaritas were really tasty! Started with eggplant enchilada, fish taco, carnitas taco and their nachos! Really good! Main course: Tambada was definitely the highlight!? ? P.S The staff at this restaurant is really welcoming! And the spot is definitely has a really ‘ cute and cozy ‘ vibe to it!
Absolutely phenomenal service and food. I had the carnitas tacos and the prickly punch. I didn't like the cocktail but I wanted to try it. My server offered to take it off my bill but I insisted she didn't. The tacos were amazing and the elote corn hit the spot. It was such a hot day and I stumbled in and got just what I needed. Thank you to the staff and cooks. I'm not from Philly but I'll be back just for El Rey and Jackass Burrito.
