One of the underestimated places3 I was ever there. The duck is so good. The Porridge was delicious and better than many places I visited in Oakland Chinatown. Sweet and acidic pork was very authentic and not too sweet. Definitely will go back there
Asked waiter (male) about the placement of only 2 of us on a 5 person table. At the discretion of the waiters he told me that he allowed another couple to sit on another table the same size. Since I complained about the slow service in sitting us; it moves our food order to the end of the line. The waiter allowed customers to get their order first. The dishes are just simple asian cooking but convince. Once to twice a month each month, we would spend $40.00 to $60.00 with tip only for lunch there. Make mathematics for the whole year. You just lost.
When my relatives visit this is a place we always go and we love the food. Service can be a bit slow but the cheap prices make up for it. Their menu is also massive and the waiters and waitresses somehow have all the dishes memorized to all the numbers. The place is fairly clean and it?s great for a big family meal or just a small occasion lunch.
Although named ?Porridge King?, they also serve other classic Cantonese dishes and have a BBQ section (for char siu, duck, etc. . The main negative is that they are generally more expensive than other restaurants in the area (e.g. Skyline Cafe . Their regular wonton noodle soup was $11.50 before tax and tip. It came with A LOT of egg noodle, and the soup and wontons tasted great. No veggies or garnish of any kind though. Service was better than at Skyline Cafe. Cash only.
