Food looks really good. However, I came for Papa John 's. While Swank has every right to dictate how their property is used, and maybe even has reason to stick it to the man and his corporate store, it 's crazy for there to be signs every 3 feet reminding you they contract with a tow company for anyone desiring to take 5 minutes to run in and grab a pizza from a carryout only pizza joint, ESPECIALLY when Swank is closed and the parking lot empty. Like I said though, not gonna lie, the food looks pretty good in the pictures. May try it if I can afford it and give more stars if it 's as good as it looks. I 'm a reasonable guy after all.
Our group of 3 visited Swank on a Saturday night at 6pm. First off, the dining area is small and cozy. It wasn’t so intimate that it was weird for our group, but it’s intimate enough to be a great date place. I would recommend getting reservations, especially if you’re coming for dinner on a weekend. It wasn’t packed when we got there, but the restaurant filled up quickly. There is outdoor seating, which is probably very popular in the fall/spring. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. A server came by quickly to offer us water and then our main server came by to get our drink orders. I ordered a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, which was ice cold and very smooth. They also have a good wine list and I had a very nice red Zinfandel with my dinner. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, so it was hard to narrow down our choices. Our server was very friendly and helpful with describing the dishes and answering all of our questions. We started with the Arancini. The risotto inside was creamy while the coating was perfectly crisp. The Calabrian chili aioli was fantastic, but we were left wanting more of it. Also, though I like yellowfin tuna sashimi, I didn’t completely get having it top the arancini balls. I think we all ended up pulling it off and eating the fish separate. Next time I would request the prosciutto instead. For the entrée, we all ordered something different, and we each raved about our meals. The Braised Short Ribs in a Parmesan Cream with handmade pappardelle was cooked perfectly with a rich sauce and delicate pasta. The Lamb Scottadito had 3 delicious medium rare lamb chops topped with a lemon butter that complimented the meat and was served with what was described as the creamiest whipped potatoes ever. I had the Oven Roasted Sea Bass, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The outside was perfectly crisp while the inside was moist and flakey. It was served over a bed of creamy parmesan risotto and topped with lemon butter sauce. Though we were already pleasantly full, we couldn’t pass on dessert, so we shared a piece of chocolate toffee cake with vanilla ice cream. It was somehow both decadent and light at the same time and was a great ending to our meal. Overall, the service was on point. Our drinks and food came out timely, and we never felt either rushed or ignored. We had one main server, but other servers would swing by to help out and make sure that everything was running smoothly. Everybody was friendly and it just seemed like everyone who was working there really enjoyed what they were doing. As we were leaving the restaurant, we were already making plans to come back again.
Quait and intimate. Stephanie was super attentive and very personable. The food was okay. Nothing unforgettable. However, I ate very light and am willing to try again.
Swank is a hidden gem in DFW. At this point, I’ve been 10+ times and I’ve never had anything that’s been less than spectacular. Swank’s tagline is “a neighborhood restaurant bar”, and Chef Luke and his wife Geni come through on making it feel like just that. Walking through the door feels like walking into a dinner party at a friend’s house. Here are some of my favorites: The beef carpaccio is some of the best and most unique I’ve had. It’s got some kick, but not overwhelming at all. Must try IMO. Braised short rib and parmesan pasta is LIGHTS OUT good. I’d personally never think of this combo, and was hesitant to try it until I saw it come out at another table. Don’t wait as long as I did to get this. If you’re looking for a lighter pasta dish, the scallops are for you. Flavors are great and portion size is perfect. They’ve had a garlic shrimp pasta with white wine garlic broth for a special a few times. Can’t go wrong with this either. For brunch, the breakfast flatbread is out of this world good. It’s actually the dish that inspired me to sit down and write this review. Biscuits and gravy are also lights out, and the fresh cinnamon roll….dear Lord…. Swank also has great cocktails and a solid (and unique) wine list. Ask Geni for recommendations on wine if you’re conflicted. I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best newish restaurants in DFW. Do yourself a favor and find out for yourself.
