Przekaż informację zwrotnąA spur of the moment dinner and restaurant decision brought us to Ticino. We had to ask for the menu, then again for the beverage menu, then again for the wine menu. Fortunately, the description of dishes were translated into English, we could place our order as there was no assitance from the surly lady in charge. The Carpaccio was quite tasty, but ran the risk of being outdone flavor wise by the seasoned mayonaise it was covered with. Our pasta dishes were delicious, including chicken scallopinis and slices of prosciutto. Service was attentive, but lacked a warm touch. The Zona Rosa tourist treatment found its pinnacle when the bill was presented, including a cover charge (something not translated into English on the menu), prices that did not quite match those on the menu and after I asked what was explained as a mandatory tip. While I was originally fully inclined to tip in accordance with service level as well as Mexican and American custom, the mandatory imposition and inclusion chilled my desire to a lower level. I don 't think that I can recommend this establishment, despite its good food.
I got to know Grotto Ticino some 18 years ago. Back then, some colleagues from the UK working in Mexico City told us about the place. Zona Rosa was back then a fashionable place with trendy restaurants with great places like this one. So after a long leave without going back to this restaurante, I walked by today and decided to give it a try... I can say that I was totally surprised by the flair and quality of the food. I had a very nice pumpkin creamy soup; followed by the most delicious grapes and olives tartine; with a roasted pork stake covered with a warm prunes sauce and vegetables... desert was included (I had tiramisu and a spoonful of chocolate cake); with an expresso to relax and think how a place which earned its place has the determination to keep the best quality in its menu when everyone else is going after the cheap and easy. Yes, the place is not fancy and there is a lot of noise because of the construction work going on nearby. But I have to say that whenever I go back to the Zona Rosa area, I will avoid the expensive places that charge stupid prices for mediocre food and lousy service and will go back to a peaceful place that will remain, I hope, one of the best kept secrets in Zona Rosa.
