The oxtails were tough, even though I had ordered them twice before and they were great. Additionally, the portion consisted mostly of rice with only five small bones. After struggling to pull off the little tough meat from the bones, I found myself left with just rice and five small oxtail bones in the container. When I called to express my disappointment, I was told in a not so friendly tone that a regular order only includes five bones. It seems like the portion size should be renamed "Baby oxtails." It's really unfortunate because I had enjoyed my previous meals. The restaurant apparently relocated (I assume due to Covid) but was told it was still the same Little Mobay. I think I will go back to my old spot in Peckham where I can get a larger portion for £3.50 instead of £8. It only takes one bad experience to change my mind. Unfortunately, no apology was offered.
I moved to Croydon almost 2 years ago and discovered this restaurant only last year. I really enjoyed the food and returned a few days later, but unfortunately they seemed to be closed every time I tried to visit. I kept trying my luck a few more times, but the shutters were always down. It makes me wonder what kind of business they are running.
I went to this restaurant to order a meal and was ignored for 5 minutes. They were receiving a delivery of cooking oil and disposing of used oil. It was lunchtime around 1:30, so I was surprised to see some tables still messy with aprons and clutter. I waited as I was hungry and asked about the menu, but was informed that curry goat was not available without any alternatives offered. Eventually, I ordered food for myself and my wife, but the lady taking the order completely ignored my wife. After about 10 minutes, the food was brought out in take away boxes, even though we had requested to eat inside. When we asked for plates, the lady became aggressive and started shouting at us, saying we should have specified our preference to dine inside. She continued to be rude and told us to leave. Overall, based on my experience and other negative reviews, I would recommend avoiding this "restaurant" at all costs.
So I ordered a jerk chicken and curry goat main meal, peppered prawns and plaintain. We made our order at 20:50, expected arrival was 21:25, they then added 30mins extra to the delivery time, and our food still didn’t arrive till 22:30! We did call and the lady on the phone was very helpful but it still took another 20mins after calling her. The food was very average and there was so much rice, hardly any meat, definitely not worth the price for the portion. The plaintain was 5 slices for £1 but it was round thin slices, again not worth the price for the portion. The peppered prawns were really nice though. Won’t be ordering from here again sadly.
As a first time customer, I was prepared to forgive them for the slow service, as their customer service at the time was fairly reasonable. However once I returned home, I realised how small the portion of meat was in the box. I dished it out thinking it may have been my eyes, but once on the plate it was even more evident that for £6.50 this was a very meager portion. I decided to call them and expected some defensiveness, but I wanted to let them know that the portion size could not go unnoticed. The owner refused to listen to me and asked me to tell her which restaurants would have given me a bigger portion and that she is 100% Jamaican. I ended the conversation when she began to swear at me. This restaurant is the reason why Jamaican restaurants get a bad reputation. It's such a shame back to Jam Rock (Thornton Heath) and Island Favourites (Norbury) I go. My advice is to take note of these reviews and stay away from restaurants that know nothing about respect for others, much less customer service. To the owner, no need to reply your comment about my blood was enough.
