Catfish Cabin - Crossville

My friends and I went to this little gem today. It is a cabin with old timey decor which I love. Shirley was our waitress and she's so sweet. Her husband Howard brought out a complimentary dish of hush puppies. They were very good. I ordered a veggie plate. I got green beans, fried okra, fried squash, and macaroni and cheese. Let me start with the good. The squash and okra were delicious. They were cooked perfectly and not greasy at all. I'm not going to lie when I saw the Mac n cheese I thought it was just going to be mediocre because it looks like boxed m&c. However upon tasting it I was pleasantly surprised to see it was made with a delightful flavorful cheese sauce. It was so good! My only complaint was the green beans. I wish they had a little more flavor they were very bland. I saw that they have homemade desserts and I almost decided against it. At the last minute I changed my mind and ordered the homemade chocolate pie and I am SO glad I did! It was absolutely delicious. It is very rich almost has a chocolate pudding vibe to it. It's topped with whipped cream, and has a chocolate crust. It is absolutely scrumptious! You can tell that it's made with love. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. If you like fish my friends said the fish was delicious. I also tried a bite of the coleslaw and it was really good! I was also VERY pleasantly surprised to see this picture of Elvis hanging on the wall!

It was the best Southern fried cooking we ever had. And the people were pleasant and welcoming. Outstanding place and atmosphere.

We decided to try the catfish at this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised when they brought us a big bowl of hot and fresh hushpuppies to start. The fried catfish with Cajun seasoning was flavorful, though not very spicy. The gator tail meal was a generous portion. The sides of green beans, French fries, greens, and fried okra were delicious, but the mashed potatoes seemed to be from a mix. The unsweetened tea was weak, but at least it was fresh. Our server was very friendly to our kids and even took them on a tour to see the taxidermied animals on display.

We loved this place, we go every year. But this year, they have changed. To start you do not get beans, slaw and hush puppies, you have to order every vegetable you want. The veggies do not taste the same either. We ordered appetizers, they were good. The catfish came, the fish was rotten, the smell made your stomach contract. We paid for our meals, they offered to make more, but the grease would have been contaminated. We regrettably will never go back, so bad for a place we enjoyed so much.
