At the point of paying I was told there was no cream with the scone but a pot was clearly visible with the scone and jam. I asked if that would be an available and the young girl agreed it would , at which point a more mature lady came from the kitchen and said it was display only and that they didn’t have any. I suggested that it would be a good idea to remove the pot as it was misleading but the reply was that’s not your decision it’s mine and she replaced the pot on the display. There was then a search for some jam and I suggest someone sarcastically that this may also not be available. This brought about a response that my sarcasm was abusive behaviour and would not be tolerated and I did expect the arrogance of the staff member to lead to be being asked to leave I had paid at this time). That wasn’t the case and I was left waiting for our coffees. One coffee was placed on the tray and I awaited the 2nd one but it was clear the assistant wasn’t making a second one. One again the mature lady came out and told me I should sit down and the tray would be brought to our table but was clearly unaware one drink was missing. After much searching to find the original order it was confirmed another coffee would’ve made and the whole tray brought to our table. The lady who brought this was pleasant and a far cry from the mature lady who was clearly in charge. Maybe the mood I was now in has some bearing on my enjoyment of food that was delivered but all I can say is that it looked better than it tasted both the scone and the brownie were bland and the coffee barely warm). I have been a customer since the shop/cafe opened and at one point had a loyalty card. This experience and my overall view of the shop has changed and I see no reason to return as there are places offering better quality and value in the Skipton area.
First the food The starters were fine but the dinners are the worst we have ever been served they are bland nothing on the plate has any flavour I’ve had better microwave tv dinners it was shockingly bad Also asked for a prawn starter and a Xmas dinner was told you had to order a starter off Xmas menu so I said it’s ok I will pay extra was told no they can not do that you can only have a normal turkey dinner ok I will pay extra for trimmings no can not do that it makes no sense It is so cold in the restaurant it’s like been in the Antarctic no wonder it was half empty and easy to get a table I think the words out Icy out side front very slippery they sell salt inside but they don’t put it down outside be careful Again the dinner was shocking I’m genuinely appalled by it nothing was cooked properly and the ingredients were inferior
Visited with Grandchildren. They made their own which they enjoyed doing. I had a meat feast. Must say that all the pizzas and coffees, etc were absolutely lovely Great service too well done
A lovely setting with a fantastic range of cakes. My friend’s carrot cake looked delicious. As I am coeliac, I could only buy one of five packet bars, I chose a Bakewell Tart which was pretty average factory fare. This was due to their policies. I could see no sandwiches etc which were gluten free. If you have no dietary needs this is a lovely cafe; if you are coeliac, a pot of tea it is. Sad that they don’t see the need to offer even one cake; good systems aren’t rocket science.
This has always been a great place for food after a good walk in the dales but definitely no more! It’s probably been a couple of years since we last visited and we were really looking forward to taking our Ukrainian friend for a good meal after a gorgeous autumnal walk. The menu offered an immediate disappointment, with very little to offer someone who doesn’t eat red meat and the only options on the special board were roast pork or beef. I ordered a pulled pork burger but what was served was nothing like pulled pork at all. Absolutely disgusting. At best, I would say it was some pieces of barely cooked pork pieces served in some type of spices, with lots of flabby and fatty attachments but definitely not pulled pork. I was offered the menu to choose an alternative but the meal will live long with me and we will give the kitchen a very wide berth.
