I would like to recommend this great place to eat fresh and delicious meals.
I love the atmosphere in the free escaping. the staff is very friendly and they feel like family. wonderful eating and huge portions at a very reasonable price. I was always surprised by low cost.
I will simply say, if you visit Cozumel, you must eat at La Candela. If you eat here just once, you will eat here many, many more times. Our waiter, Saul, has become more than just a waiter, he is a source of knowledge, and...one of the friendliest men you could ever meet. During our latest visit, I was suffering from a toothache. I asked Saul for advice and he directed me to a dentist, who not only solved my problem, but did it quickly and at a very fair price. This is the type of service that one gets at La Candela. I can't list all of the dishes that we have tried in our many visits, but I do recommend that you ask for the specials which are not on the menu. The food is authentic Mexican and it is beyond delicious. The service is impeccable. Please do yourself a favor when you visit Cozumel; visit La Candela for breakfast or lunch, and you will become as big a fan as I am.
We stayed on the Island for 8 days and ate at La Condela 3 nights for dinner. The service was fast and friendly. We enjoyed every meal we ordered. The portions were good size, everything was fresh, the price was very good. The Margarita was...perfect and the Guacamole was the best I have ever tasted.
I was staying across the street at the Flamingo Hotel for the third time this year before I finally visited La Candela. The shady interior was inviting, and it was always open when I went by. I was just in a hurry to get somewhere, or with people who had already chosen someplace else. Finally, early one afternoon, exhausted from the most beautiful diving on Planet Earth and almost"home", I stopped. I was allowed to choose a table with just enough shade. I wanted tacos, and on the waiter's recommendation I ordered beef. There is no better lunch than tacos and beer. The food came out quickly – and don't let the two dollar signs at the top of the page fool you. This place is plenty affordable -if you pay in pesos, and pay menu prices, there are plenty of meals you can eat (with a beer) for under $10. I remember most how it felt to sit there exhausted and hot with a cold Bohemia Obscura, light streaming in from the street, and the attentive waiter--elegant, old school, like I was indoors and paying a lot more.Next time I'm in town I will not wait so long before I visit.
