You don't need to fancy a thing up when you use quality ingredients. I was very impressed and would come back in a heartbeat for this burger. The soup of the day was gazpacho and it was delicious as well. My husband had the Tuna Nicoise and enjoyed the take on it.....served up on broccolini. The restaurant is in an old building by the river. Well maintained and full of character. Oh, there are lots of interesting local beers too. Winner all the way around!
I've been to the Whale a handful of times since it opened, and agree that it's not as good as it used to be. Craft beer selection is great, menu options not so much unless you enjoy raw elk or -- get ready -- "popcorn shrimp" tostadas served with POPCORN. Just a bit cringe-worthy, that. I went with a group from work and most of us left feeling underwhelmed and short a few dollars more than strictly necessary. We did get good and friendly service in spite of the place being really busy, much respect to the servers who have always been great.
We dropped in for lunch after seeing lots of folks coming out with smiles...were greeted at the door by Robin, one of the owners and seated by the window with a pretty view. Our waitress offered tasters of our beer and wine choices - everything is local - to ensure we would enjoy them. Great food and service in a traditional timbered pub setting. Both Robin and our lovely waitress checked to see if we needed anything and had enjoyed our meals. This is a keeper!
This had a nice atmosphere and a lovely terrace to sit out on when it is sunny! Not an amazing choice of food for vegans though, but the staff were friendly and tried their best to accommodate.
This pub is located on an arm of a river. There is a small dock where people arrive on paddle boards and kayaks. The interior of the pub is an old house and it's nice enough, but a seat on the patio that runs the length of the place is where you want to me.We arrived and the patio was full so we sat at the bar and ordered some local beers and after 10 mins seating opened up on the deck.Seals come up from the ocean as well and like to look at those on the patio. Ordered kale Caesar salad, fish and chips (cod) We ordered an extra fish for $8. The batter is very light so it's about the fish. Portions are small compared to normal fish and chips but once again, less batter. We had to ask for extra Caesar dressing for the kale salad as it was fairly sparse. Also ordered their "award winning" chowder. Not sure which Awards but it was good. It's not creamy enough to be a New England style as advertised, but it has more chunks of veggies and bacon. With nice beers, it's a perfect place on a warm summer evening.
