The Ship Inn - County Durham

Found this on the web and booked as I was working in Hartlepool. Rooms are in an annexe at the back with a sea view and good parking. Went in for dinner and a wide selection of freshly cooked food was on offer together with four draught beers (7 at weekends). I had the chicken with haggis, huge portion and absolutely delicious, I’ll be back!!

I have just had the most wonderful smoked haddock dinner ever at the ship inn Shena the chef is outstanding locally produced food products, she has the ability to turn basic ingredients into a heavenly dish of the highest quality and standards my family had lamb chicken curry steak pie, and of course the haddock Thank you for this very fine cusine

I stopped by recently while out for a drive. The staff was friendly. We both ordered sandwiches and didn't have to wait long for them to arrive. The food was tasty. I would definitely stop by again if I am in the area.

Took advantage of the themed curry evening and was not disappointed, Choice of chicken or beef curry together with a portion of both vegetable curry and lentil curry served with a pilau rice. Pakoras, papadums and a raita dip accompanied the platter, Absolutely delicious! Was told by the owners that other themed nights on different days are being considered. Cannot wait!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, but after enjoying a meal there, we had to come back. Our second visit was just as excellent as the first. The staff gave us a very warm welcome, making us feel right at home. Although they have a small menu, everything is fresh and made to order, so changing items is no trouble at all. The meat is top quality and cooked perfectly. I ordered the Rib Eye steak and my mother had the lamb cutlets - I like my steak rare and not many chefs can cook it that way. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit, the food is 5-star, just like the lovely couple who own and run it.
