The lovely ladies who worked there were fantastic, and the Brie and cranberry sandwich was the best I've ever had. The roasted potatoes with shallots and rosemary were the only downside, but overall, the visit was still worth it.
Very nice ambience in old part of hotel. Good food and friendly service for evening meal. Reasonable choice and excellent deserts. Wine selection good at range of prices and qualities. We had the lamb roast which was particularly tasty with gravy and fresh green vegetables.
The one-man bar team was slow, the cider was off. When we went to be seated we were told there was no booking, I offered to show them my confirmation email, there was lots of chat between the two waitresses but they insisted there was no booking. Eventually they logged into the opentable app, where my booking appeared. We were told it was not their fault and they didn't know why I'd booked via that app (it's on the link from their website) When we were seated we were informed 2 of the roast meats had sold out which left only beef, at 1400 on a Sunday I was quite surprised by this and have to assume the kitchen is very poorly stocked. To be fair, the food was good but the overall experience was very underwhelming.
The Porch House is a beautiful preserved quite old building with modern comfort and great food. My husband and I enjoyed a delightful mackerel appetizer and duck breast and calves liver respectively, and found all to be delicious. the atmosphere is lovely and of course the ambience of the antiquity charming. Highly recommended!
Great staff, very cosy and possibly the best roast beef I've ever had. Staying here for 2 days and very looking forward to it!!
