Blockley Village Shop Cafe - Cotswold

Always a warm welcome in one of my favourite villages.

The shop has great coffee and sells my greeting cards, including one featuring a map of Blockley.

I visited this cafe twice for breakfast while staying in a holiday rental in Blockley after hearing great things about it. I was not disappointed! They are dog-friendly, and I was able to sit both outside and inside. The service was excellent both times, and the menu offered a lot of delicious choices.

This excellent village shop may not offer Tesco prices, but it is a vital hub of the community. Opened in 2007 with the help of fundraising and lottery money, it is run by the BCA (Blockley Co-operative Association) which also manages and maintains the building. In addition to a cafe, the shop offers cash back up to £50, a great selection of salty snacks, and daily newspapers. Situated across from 'Paxton House', where Patton Eisenhower once made plans for the Normandy Invasion, this shop is always bustling with residents and visitors.

Just left visited Saturday 18th November. …..Absolutely awful; service awful; food awful. My partner took me here to start our date day together as we have been busy recently. Told to take a seat and that someone would clear the table and bring menu. Sat for 15 20mins and two waiters (one young girl and one young guy) just stood around the till area looking miserable. We asked for menus and the girl came over and tried to take our order, but we hadn’t even got the menus to be able to order and had not even ordered drinks. She gave us the menus and said she would give us a minute. She went back and just stood by the till looking miserable. In the end we went back up to order because we waited a further 15 minutes upon receiving menus. We also moved upstairs in the end as people waiting for takeaway coffees were just crowding around the table and those waiting for a table just kept staring at us waiting for us to go. Really overwhelming and intimidating. We moved upstairs and food came after a while . Pancakes were tiny and our poached eggs were uncooked but by then we just wanted to leave . The couple next to us had to reorder their breakfast as they had been waiting for ages and the girl who took the order had not put it through correctly the first time. I believe they got free coffees as an apology. In all, a poor experience and one that I do not want to relive. It seems that the staff need more training and need to use their initiative a little better to improve service in the future . They were just stood waiting to be directed and was shocking , really. Awful.
