The service is impeccable and as such, combined with locale and ambiance it earns four stars. The filet (see picture) was a decent size, cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning and minimal of the advertised peppercorn flavor. Food wasn’t better than three stars. For one, wine and a steak came to $60ish. It was enjoyable but I’ll go elsewhere the next time I’m here for a play.
The convenience of Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge to all of the arts venues nearby, it’s lovely floor to ceiling windows and view, the fabulous service and delicious food keep us coming back when we have a show to see this is our second time and we’ll return again. Our server, Michael, was divine super attentive, cheerful, helpful and patient with our menu questions. Food is scrumptious, but it’s a bit on the expensive side. We ordered a wonderful cacio pepe pasta starter to share, I had the seasonal soup (yummy tomato bisque, which was vegetarians and YAY for that! and my friend selected the seared ahi tuna. We started with well mixed martinis and it all made for a really wonderful Saturday night experience once coupled with the fabulous show we saw at South Coast Repertory Theater. My one recommendation would be for Leatherby’s to consider a few more plant based options for vegetarians and folks seeking lighter fare.
