Bayleaf Fine Indian Cuisine

We arrived on a Saturday night around 7:30 without a reservation and were fortunate enough to get a table. The restaurant also offers takeout, so the kitchen is constantly busy. Our starters of popadoms and onion bhajhi arrived within 5-10 minutes of ordering, along with our drinks. We ordered Lamb Saag and Lamb Shashlik Bhuna with chapati and two servings of rice. It did take about 45 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering, but we were not in a hurry so it wasn't a problem for us. I deducted a star because the Shashlik dish came out with chicken instead of lamb. I could have mentioned this to the staff, but I didn't want to wait for the correct dish while my wife ate hers. The second star was deducted because the dish was spicier than I had anticipated. There was no indication of spice levels on the menu, so I wasn't expecting it to be as hot as a Jalfrezi. I can handle a spicy curry, but it wasn't what I was in the mood for that night. The food was okay overall, not great but not terrible either. I've had better and worse meals elsewhere.

The food at this restaurant was delicious, portion sizes were generous, and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed two mixed grills (which were very tasty) and two chicken tikka biryanis (which were good). The breads, popadoms, and dips were also enjoyable. We had placed an order for 7:45pm, but our meal was not ready until 8:10pm. However, the manager was very friendly and accommodating.

We have just had the most amazing Valentine’s meal! The welcome, the service, the food and the atmosphere was as excellent as it always is. Thanks to everyone for making us feel so welcome and for making our Valentine’s Day, such a special evening.

We recently had the best Indian food in a while at Bayleaf, despite regularly having South Asian cuisine. We booked the restaurant for a birthday meal and were pleased that we weren't deterred by some negative reviews. The welcome and food were outstanding, with exquisite flavors and friendly staff. We will definitely return!

Very welcoming hosts even though we turned up on a quiet night. There was of us in total. Food arrived without much of a wait. Great value too.
