We had fruit and ice cream coffee and enjoyed it in the beautiful garden area. On another occasion we tried the Chana Masala without yogurt (comes with lots of rice) and the tamale with vegetables instead of bread (has to order to fulfill two portions). The food is delicious, but it is a bit convincing to combine the dish to make it vegan. Updated by previous review on 2022-11-12
The place does not claim that they are vegan. They have a few vegetarian and vegan choices. We weren't in the hostel, but we went there to have fruit and yogurt. Our record was quite large and nothing compared to the sad picture uploaded in other posts. We had a lot of fresh fruit and homemade sugar-free yogurt that really tastes good. I had the feeling the owner and the people in service are really nice. I can only give 3 stars because we didn't have a proper dish, but I guess it would be pretty good. We tasted homemade bread and it was pretty good for Central America. The restaurant advertises that they use local products etc. (see picture menu). Updated by previous rating on 2022-03-19
When we arrived at the hostel, the owner, the American, said there are some vegan options for breakfast, but the next morning it turns out that he does not have the difference between vegan and vegetarian, so in the end we could only have a small plate with melon, hummus and tortillas (instead of bread). It was delicious, but if we knew that before we were going somewhere else.
We only had black iced coffee, juice of the day and a beer. All were good and reasonably priced. It's definitely not a vegetarian place nor particularly veggie friendly. They do have a few vegetarian options on the menu but nothing is marked vegan. The fruit bowl is obviously vegan and some of the veggie stuff can probably be adjusted. Beware their bread isn't vegan as it contains milk. Lovely garden and staff. Would recommend the studio at Iguana Azul, the co-owned accommodation next door.
