Oh dear. It was like going back in time. Musak, couples talking in whispers, a waiter who was clearly barely tolerating the fact he had guests to attend to....... I remarked to my husband that I couldn't hear anything happening in the kitchen - considering we were sitting right next to the doorway.I accept that it was a bank holiday, and I suspect that the chef had the night off. It seriously reminded me of Fawlty Towers and the 'chef's just opened the tin' remark. The food was dreadful. I left most of my meal and when the waiter came to clear the table he was quite offish that I hadn't cleared my plate. He didn't ask if there was problem with the meal and, as I hadn't eaten it, I didn't feel I had to point it out!The only redeeming factor was the Irish coffee creme brûlée I had for dessert. I'd eat that again, but please don't make me eat the rubber turkey escalope ever again!
A short break with Brittany Ferries, just out of season.Meals were very good. Didn't fancy basic menu de jour on first evening so chose menu Cornouaille. The assiete de pecheur was great - 5 oysters, many prawns, langoustines, crab claw & a pot of winkles & whelks. The sort of dish where you end up with a large pile of debris (see pix)! Followed by Fillet of John Dory & duck breast (tender & cooked to perfection). Followed by cheese 'chariot' & a crepes with caramelised apples.Second night the menu de jour was different. Started with assiete de fruit de mer (basically the same as previous night, but slightly smaller) followed by veal chop. Too full for dessert!Reviewing the hotel separately (if possible)
This hotel is situated on the seafront at Concarneau, beautiful location and excellent views. We had a ground floor disabled room, in which we have stayed a few times before. Though excellent bathroom facilities the whole room needs decorating, there is a patch of damp in one corner and it is tired. We could not get WiFi in the room , and had to walk to the reception area, not easy for someone who has great difficulty in walking. The staff at reception do their job but there are no pleasantries and few smiles, you feel that they are bored with customers. Breakfast is excellent, though the poor breakfast attendant is sorely overworked, attending to the front desk and a large party of Germans on our last two days.
Well presented hotel and although given 3 star probably better than that. Bedroom spacious with view of the sea and balcony. Bed comfortable. No coffee or hot drink making facilities which was an irritationAs I had booked through Trip Adviser no breakfast included because " they had taken their commission ". Had I booked direct breakfast would have been included. I pointed out to them that if it hadn't been for trip adviser I would not have been there in the first place but to no avail. So, if you like this hotel then book direct if you want breakfast. Otherwise good stay
We were on a `half board` basis for 2 days. Breakfasts were good, with a variety of foods available and well presented. Evening meals a good choice of menu
