Therefore, my bf I made it our mission to try the location in College Station. Once we walked in, it was completely empty. Understandable for a Monday night. We sat at the bar and was promptly helped by a woman who had a TON of energy. She recommended the chicken Alfredo pizza $18), so we decided to split it. We were so shocked about the prices!!! We wanted to try a calzone as well, but we were very unwilling to pay $20 for one. I was very pleased with the service in all. My bf wanted Tabasco, and our waitress went all the way to Cenare next door to get him some. I would love to try the gelato and specialty coffees, but I would not order any food again. Way too overpriced for the quality. Dough tasted great, but the pizza had way too much cheese to hide the lack of flavor.
Save your money and time, and get a cheap oven pizza. This place was good a few years ago, but the pies are now skimpy and busted. We had 11 pieces if pepperoni on a large pie, some kind of sausage kibble instead of real meat, a gyro pizza with specs of meat... This has to be the worst pie we've had since I fished through the dumpster at Little Cesars. I fed this to my pregnant wife, so now I owe my child a lifetime of apologies. If you claim to like it now you are living in the past. Sorry College Station, we lost another one.
The atmosphere of this place is OK very typical for a pizzeria, no qualms there. However, the service was awful. We seated ourselves and were finally attended to 15 minutes after sitting down, even though the restaurant was essentially empty. The waitresses had extremely spotty service, and appeared to have forgotten about our table at one point. Not OK, especially when you have only 2 3 other occupied tables in the entire restaurant, with two waitresses to attend customers. My boyfriend and I ordered the Meathead pizza, which I'm assuming was adorned with various frozen meat, for it looked and tasted that way. The sauce on the pizza was weird... It tasted like it came from a jar. The crust on the pizza was good, however this could not redeem it for me. We paid $17.00 for a mediocre pizza. We both agreed next time we will just order from a local pizza chain to get a pizza of the same caliber (or better, actually) for a much smaller price.
Mr. G's is not out of business. Their downtown Bryan location is still going very strong. The Small shop on University next to Cenare was just for the convenience of CS people to pick up their pizza, but it seems to have never caught on because it is really much more of a dine in place. They do not deliver. Now for the review. If you like real, authentic NewYork style pizza, you will appreciate Mr. G's. Their pizza is the real thing, just like you would get in Manhattan. The location in downtown Bryan is really charming and a great place for a relatively inexpensive but nice date. Its also a great place to try on First Friday.
All the wonderful experience of the Bryan outlet was let down by this one. They kind of spoilt my Valentine's Day experience as they were ignorant towards people visiting the Pizzeria and chose to be more attentive towards their sister Italian restaurant's customers. The bill was presented before the order was served and we had to get up twice and remind about our pending order. No attention was paid and water glasses went unrefilled . Neither visiting nor recommending this outlet to anybody. For a better service and homely experience, visit the Bryan outlet.
