I could have caught a fish at the beach faster than that! When I got home, I found that the food was dripping in oil. The only good thing was that after drying it with kitchen roll, it tasted good. I also ordered a pie for another family member, but it was dry inside and looked like it had been sitting in the cabinet for hours. It's disappointing to see a restaurant that used to be consistently good deliver such subpar food.
Excellent fish and chips from Chris' again, they know how to look after their customers. The Cod was light and fluffy and tasted great, their Cheeseburgers are the best in Tiptree and the kids loved the Savaloy and Battered Sausage.
I stopped by for the X-large cod and chips, which was decent, but the size of the fish was smaller than the ones I've had at other fish and chip shops. I found it to be poor value for £10.10, as I was still hungry after finishing my meal. I am not a big eater, but this meal did not satisfy me.
Highly recommend gluten free night on a tuesday! Had cod and chips and mushy peas. Felt like such a treat. We also got some nuggets, battered sausage and chips (not gluten free! everyone was happy with what they got!
Good fish and chips is not as easy as people think. There are a few variables: The chips have to be good. These were. Just the right degree of caramelisation. No soggyness, but enough give to be just right. The fish has to be fresh. This fish was fresh. The batter has to have a crunch, a tinge of bitterness, but be light enough not leave your stomach feeling under pressure. Again, full marks. It was all served with a smile. So 5/5.
