Visited here as part of a solo trip around the central Romania. Just had to taste Varza a la Cluj and from what I read a Varzarie is the best place to try it! The hostess was very welcoming and even though I barely spoke of Romanian as greetings and some modest gratitudes, she was very accommodating and gracious! Despite the language barrier, she even cracked a joke! Food was superb and I had soup washed with smoked pork, bread basket and Varza a la Cluj with a cold ciuc! Everything in all cost me less than £10 and service was fast. Tourists were not existent except me so sure a restaurant that is supported by locals who always speaks very much of food and service. A must visit!!
We heard a lot of good things about this place and everything was as good as expected. We'll visit this place for sure every time we'll visit Cluj Napoca.
Fisrt it was raining so they close the wooden door and it looks like it’s closed. No sign or something. The waitress was very unpleasant and rude Food was average portion are very small. They didn’t have tea even it was very cold The furniture...looks like a chip bar. I don’t recommend this place if you want to eat good food in a restaurant it’s cheep bar
Abbiamo mangiato a pranzo in questo ristorante quasi per caso, attirati dall'aspetto semplice, vagamente provenzale, di questo ristorante, che dipana i propri tavoli tra un cortile d'ingresso, un giardino interno e alcune sale chiuse per la stagione meno clemente. Solo in seguito, dalla consultazione del menù, abbiamo realizzato, come del resto il nome poteva lasciar supporre, che si trattava di un esercizio specializzato in piatti a base di verza. Del resto, come si sa, la verza è l'ingrediente base di molte preparazioni tradizionali rumene, a partire dai famosi e gustosissimi “sarmale”, involtini, appunto, di verza – a volte di foglie di vite – ripieni di carne (maiale , ma anche manzo o agnello) e/o verdure e riso, cotti in brodo. E generalmente serviti con polenta (mamaliga) e panna acida. Ci siamo quindi lanciati in assaggi di piatti a base di verza, rivisitati alla maniera locale: sarmale cu ciuperc (funghi), verza alla Cluj, cotoletta di pollo con contorno di patatine fritte e...verze! Da bere limonata (tipica bevanda rumena a base di succo limone diluito in abbondante acqua), birra rumena ala spina e acqua minerale. Tutto eccellente, con inatteso accompagnamento musicale di canti tradizionali intonati a squarciagola e alta amplificazione da un cameriere del ristorante. variante rumena dei neo-melodici napoletani!!! Il conto? 83 lei per quattro persone, pane incluso. Altamente consigliabile.
