The Ghan - Cloverdale

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere was unique with an old-fashioned train, and the food and drink were excellent. The staff were helpful and accommodating. I even got to witness a beautiful sunrise in Marla, located in the middle of the outback. The staff went above and beyond to ensure my experience was enjoyable. Overall, I had a great time, although I was disappointed not to see any kangaroos.

Loved our sleeper berth and just watching the world go by. Very comfortable and good service. We traveled Gold Class and it was the high point of our trip. My son would like to see them add wifi- that would have made a trip more fun for him. But he and I at 53 and 17 were quite a bit younger than the pensioner average age in our car, so I'm guessing there's not much demand for it. We took the camel excursion and enjoyed that too.

Has the atmosphere of a really diner, but for "real" food on a budget, it looked perfect. Unfortunately the curry was quite fatty and obviously used really low quality meat, and tragically also made us both quite ill for the rest of the night.

For train enthusiasts, this restaurant provides a top-notch experience! Our journey was originally set to begin in Adelaide, but due to a freight train accident the day before, we had to fly to Alice Springs instead. While it was unfortunate, it was not the fault of The Ghan. They refunded us for the portion of the trip we missed and treated us like royalty. We enjoyed complimentary drinks in the bar car, a fantastic dinner, and breakfast and lunch served on board. It was a great opportunity to meet other travelers as well. Our stop at Katherine Gorge allowed us to take a boat tour up the gorge, observing rock art and admiring the stunning scenery. Afterward, we boarded the train again and continued on to Darwin.

People seem to be reviewing the Ghan train journey, but this link refers to 'The Ghan' Restaurant in Perth. I used to go to it and get takeaways from it - nice food and I was disappointed when it closed down.
