We used to go there in the past when we boated more and when we went back we got great service and the drinks and appetizer sampler we got were delicious.
My husband and I showed up here last week and immediatley felt at home. We were offered beer right away, the bartender Gina was friendly, hung out with us, and we thought damn this is going to be awesome! The owner Mike seemed a little plastered, and as we hung out we realized this was normal that everyone there had a drinking problem. But we were on our vacation finally, and that is their business. So we drank a few beers and went to find our room, excited about the weekend ahead. We were expecting another couple, so upon seeing our two bedroom room I was elated. The room was very old school, the mini fridge didn 't work (my husband fixed it), there was no toilet paper, paper towels, soap, bath towels, etc. All things we immediatley went and picked up at the dollar General. No big deal. On our way back from dollar General we heard honking and saw that there was a van in a ditch with a woman sitting in front. We park and run over to make sure she is ok. She 's drunk, saying her husband did this and she can 't find her shoes, and he beat her. I ran down to the bar to get help because we had no service to call 911, and was followed back up by Mike (the owner). My husband says the husband is walking back and obviously wasted, and that Mike should call 911 because of the allegations the woman made. We find out that the husband is their cook. We were told nobody call the cops He then told us that we could pull her out with Our truck. My husband says no, it cant . Mike gets frustrated and goes to get his truck and tries but fails to get the van out. Meanwhile the cook is laying in the street and none of these drunks seems able to fix the situation. There 's fighting between people and it 's just a mess. So we go take a nap and await Our friends, blowing the situation off as a fluke and trying not to dwell. Our friends showed up that night, to find their bed had dirty sheets. Not only did it look like a dog had rolled around in it, but there was some questionable, fresh, unwashed stains. They talked to the owner who went and stripped the bed, apologized profusely, and eventually got them some new sheets. We spend the next day and night on the boat, having a great time, when we get back to the resort we are given free shots and party. In the midst of the busiest we 've seen them at this point they decide it 's time we pay for the room and the drinks we 've had up until now. My husband gives Gina his card, it 's declined (he never put a travel notice on it) , so he gives another card and it goes through just fine. We don 't think much else of it except that their record keeping skills are dismal. She tried to make us calculate our bill for the weekend! We brushed it off and kept going about our night. The next day 3 more friends show up. Boating all day again until night time when everything went sideways. Our friend was playing some party music that apparently the owner thought was murder music and kept skipping all of his songs on the jukebox. When our friend confronted him about it he said they dont kill people here We found out that the newcomers to Our group both had dirty sheets on their bed and the resort was refusing to give them new ones. Mike and Our friend got into it, Mike went and passed out after saying he was about to give us our money back and wanted us to leave. 2 of the girls were sitting on the patio waiting for new sheets when Gina walked out and said a bunch of stuff about this isn 't the ramada and You people always act like we owe you something . (3 of the 5 girls this weekend are black, including the main couple we came down with. Everyone is angry, the girls that showed up that day were scared. But it was late so we propped chairs against our doors and tried to sleep. Packed up, and left as early as possible. We found out when we got home they charged my husbands card 4 times. This place needs some serious overhaul and a whole new staff. Obviously, we won 't be back.
My wife and I along with a few friends decided to stayed at Moonies Resort while spoonbill snagging in April 2019. My wife and I arrived there just before 9pm. Being my first time at Moonies, I didn't know where to check in. I wound up going to a couple different doors before I found the bar where I met three people. These were the extremely friendly staff of Moonies, winding down and getting things ready for the influx of people arriving for the weekend. One of them was the owner, Mike, and the other two were his employees who served as the cook, bartender, and maids. The owner Mike could quickly become a close friend of mine, a real friendly sincere guy, and fun to talk with. I would say the owner may need to hire someone a little better at record keeping, this includes recording sales, it would be my guess they're losing a lot of money from mismanagement. Although very nice people, his employees did not major in business, hotel management, or culinary arts. I didn't personally eat there, but my group did and they didn't like what they had, and we're not picky people. There was no tracking of drinks sold at the bar while we were there, on two nights, we had to help the barmaid, or was she the cook, figure out our own tabs. There is no telling how much is lost here, but a quick audit might find a problem. Rooms were okay, just keep in mind, rooms cost $65 a night, and its not the Holiday Inn. Its for people wanting access to the lake, and there are plenty of boat slips to park your boat whiles there. Ceiling fan didn't work in my room, there was no TV, there was WiFi, but unless you talked to the staff, the password wasn't posted in the rooms. There were mismatched dishes, one coffee cup, some silverware, and one headboard on one of the two mismatched queen sized beds. Sheets and blanket appeared to be clean, as was the shower and toilet. Wasn't bad, but could have been better. With proper staff, income would allow for upgrades. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great time Mike.
Truly astounding establishment. I only give it two stars because I obtained a great story just by coming here, our waitress was absolutely trashed while working. Nobody came over to our table when we came in, so we flagged someone down to get some food. The wait wasn't super long for food, but the waitress brought water that was mixed with coke, and could not follow a simple drink order other than a simple screwdriver. Joke of an establishment, truly a miracle.
Frequent this place all the time. Great wings, good people, and nice view of the main lake.
