This is an absolutely perfect coffee shop in any way, starting with the star of the show, the coffee. The espresso in the cappuccino is smooth and clean tasting, without acidity or bitterness. The old Rancilio two groups espresso machine is a real Italian classic, and the baristas know their secrets clearly! The baristas were friendly and they pampered my total nerd over the machine and the quality of the coffee they served. The decor is a combination of well made new pieces made to look old next to real antiques. Very late 1800 mercantile / industry. The music, a wide selection of tedious classical rock and indie (Florence the Machine and Fleetwood Mac), was played quietly and unobtrusively and would only float in conscious sound into conversational moods. The pastries were fresh and handmade, not frozen and reheated. They were not superfluous or dense, but let the aromas of actual food shine through them. The store is perfectly positioned on the old main street, with simple parking on the street. I would come back to visit this city just to drink the coffee!
Nice place, good coffee drinks and very nice pastries. Don't be confused with the White Birch Inn next. I went wrong to the Inn and the woman there was not enthusiastic and let me know that the Inn was only for guests.
This restaurant is fantastic in every aspect. We enjoy visiting cafes and this is one of the best we've been to. They are very welcoming to children and there is street parking available. We had breakfast there and tried their bacon and cheese quiche along with some regular coffee. The food was incredibly delicious. They have a full espresso bar and a bakery with a wide variety of baked goods. They also offer a selection of wines and gifts for sale. We had a great experience and would highly recommend it.
I just stopped with a friend when I went through town. The almond bar was fantastic- a kind of light very fresh (all bakers are made in the house) paired nicely with the double shot. Diana the srew were very friendly helpful. I'm looking forward to a visit next time in Clayton!
