Although vegan dishes weren't listed on the menu during our visit, the server provided us with a detailed explanation of what could be made vegan and how. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. If Happy Cow allowed me to give five stars to a non-vegan restaurant, I definitely would!
I absolutely loved this charming little restaurant! I was in the city visiting family and was so thankful to discover this place. The owner was incredibly helpful in guiding me toward some excellent vegan dishes, and they were fantastic!
I was looking for a restaurant in Clarksville that was conveniently located between my house and my father's for a birthday dinner. After reading reviews, I decided on Dae Bok. Herman, who runs the place, and his mother, a native Korean, handle the cooking. He mentioned that his mother uses jackfruit as a meat alternative for vegan dishes, or simply omits meat for those options—just ask about which dishes can be adapted. I ordered the Bulgogi with jackfruit, while my father chose the Chicken Bulgogi. He ended up trying and enjoying the jackfruit, too! We also ordered Yamandu, which are fried dumplings. Each meal comes with kimchi that doesn't use fish ingredients and a bean spice salad. We had plenty of food, enough to take home a second meal. Herman was very friendly and informative. While we were there, we noticed a few other customers and some takeout orders being prepared. The restaurant may not be easily noticeable from the road, but it’s definitely a hidden gem. There are plenty of options for both vegan preferences and for those with omnivore tastes.
I ordered the bulgogi made with jackfruit, and my father opted for the chicken bulgogi. He also tried the jackfruit and really enjoyed it. We shared some yamandu, which are fried dumplings. The meal came with a refreshing side salad that didn't include fish and had a peanut spice dressing. We ended up having so much food that we had enough left over to take home for a complete second meal. Herman was very friendly and knowledgeable, and while we were there, we noticed a few other customers dining in and some take-out orders being placed. The restaurant is not particularly noticeable from the street; it feels like a hidden gem. They offer a wide array of options for both vegan diners and their omnivorous family and friends.
