This place makes pupusas, the national food of the country of El Salvador. They have more varieties of it than any other place I have been to. Being a pupusa fan, I would go immediately for the traditional options such as the cheese or cheese with bean fillings. This time I had the pupusa with chicharron (pork). It was good. Imagine a single food item so delicious that it comprises the majority of the menu. I find it very exciting that this restaurant gives you the option to add extra ingredients such as shrimp, pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage and many others. This is something I have never seen in any other Salvadorian restaurant. Such a creative idea. This place is run by actual Salvadorians who truly believe in the potential of their national dish. Aside from pupusas, they also have a side menu of small items such as tamales, fries, dessert, etc. Pupusas are made with ground corn and pan fried. They are always accompanied with grated pickled cabbage made in its own distinct way. It has a distinct taste and very different from other cabbage renditions such as coleslaw, sauerkraut or kimchi. I see this place as an evolution of the pupusa dining experience. Outside of Panama, my experience eating it has always been at humble, small eateries. This place, on the other hand, is fancy when compared. It has hip decorations and is air conditioned. This place is raising the bar for pupusas, partaking in making them mainstream food here. My only wish is for them to improve their coffee.
This is a great little place right on the street. Yummy pupusas at a great price. Will definitely come back! Got the special with 8 pupusas for $15 and it was more than enough for two of us! Enjoyed sitting outside and people watching too!
We stopped for lunch and they didn't have any of the 3 different tamales listed so I ordered a hamburger. The server came back later and said they didn't have hamburgers either. So we got up and left.
Food was delicious, really cute place. Love the statue. And the artwork. Perfect place to hide out from the rain. Would eat every meal here if we could.
