The 3-4 waittresses took forever to get to our table, and were reluctant and distant through our entire stay there. Indeed, when a 7-year-old in our group knocked over a glass, we managed to pick up all the plates and remove the table cloth without a single one of them coming over. Rather they were off in a corner paying attention to their cell phones. Very generally, the service was inept and uninterested.
We appreciated the view and quiet ambiance of this restaurant (no TV, which is great).Service was fast and courteous too. But the food wasn't great. Unusuallyfor a restaurant that caters for tourists, no quarter was given for the level of chile in the dishes. We're no wimps but the mushroom cocktail was near inedibly spicy, my kids had to leave most of their green enchiladas, and the green pipian mole packed a punch (but was the pick of what we ordered). The most disappointing was the brown mole. It seemed like it had been sitting in a bubbling pot all day, and was far too cloying and dense, and tasted, not burnt, exactly, but definitely overcooked. All in all, not what we expected and a mixed experience
This is a good solid food choice for trying out local specialties, amd they have terrace with views on the backside of the cathedral. Howeber, do not expect any highlights compared to other Mexican cities, food all over Cuetzalan is heavy and mediocre.
We like this place a lot. The mole poblano is very good as is the mushroom soup. The plates that weren't so good were the pipian verde and the mushrooms with cream. On weekends you have some great local music with guitar and violin. Nice view of the church and the service is good.
This beauitfully decorated restaurant definitely keeps with the charm of Cuetzalan being a pueblo magico . This restaurant has two dinning rooms, one with large windows looking out onto the streets, the cathedral and hills of Cuetzalan. It is located very close to the zócalo. I ate there three times during the week I spent in Cuetzalan. When I had a late lunch on Sunday afternoon there was live music in the restaurant. It was charming. They have a very good mushroom soup here. I especially liked their potatoe tacos. They had a large selection of food that is from the region. It is opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would definitely eat here again if I visited Cuetzalan and I would recommend it to other travelers.
