I was attending a seminar that ran late and was on the lookout for a place to eat around 10 o'clock. The only establishments that appeared to be open were pubs, but I didn't want to venture too far. I noticed Nagoya was open, with a Zomato rating of 3, and decided to give it a try. Upon entering, I found only a few tables in this small establishment (though more seating was available in the cellar) with a sushi bar. The decor reminded me of a cozy Chinese restaurant. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and provided recommendations when asked. It took some time for my food to arrive (partly due to a bus delay), but the fried chicken was slightly soggy. Despite this, the flavor was excellent and the chicken was marinated beautifully, juicy, and tender. My family and I enjoyed the prawn tempura, which was served with a delicious dipping sauce. The chicken gyoza was generously filled and delicious, though I prefer a bit more filling personally. I appreciated the mini bottle of sauce that accompanied the dish. The noodles came in a separate bowl with a mild broth flavored with eel, though my brother found it needed some seasoning. The soup included only two thin slices of pork, half of a boiled egg, and mushroom sprouts. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, especially for those who aren't heavy protein eaters like myself. While waiting for my order, the kind lady even offered me complimentary green tea and neatly packaged my takeout with a piece of cardboard to keep it stable.
Nagoya is a quaint Japanese restaurant that serves authentic dishes with good execution. The atmosphere is calm and traditionally decorated, but lacks a bit of excitement. It is a pleasant place to enjoy decent Japanese cuisine, but faces tough competition and could benefit from some additional standout features.
This is a beautiful little Japanese restaurant right on george st. not far from selfridges, the place tastes fresh sashimi, small izakaya plates and nudels etc. the highlight is the teekanne. fragrant, clear and sweet perfect suppe to accompany the dishes. also their salmon jyu or fresh sashimi on a bowl of warm sushi rice is simply delicious.
Many establishments think that they serve authentic sushi. Only a few actually understands what real sushi should taste like. This simple dish is one of the hardest to get right, and harder still to master. There was perfect balance and harmony in every piece of nigiri. The sashimi was rich with flavour, but not intrusive. Every maki tasted wholesome, enveloped in the warmth of the lightly toasted nori. And the ikura popped in my mouth like umami bubble wraps : The experience was near spiritual... I may have attained nirvana, if not for my friend who felt ill at ease without a conveyor belt and the scarcity of mayonnaise :
