Empal gentong is special culinary from Cirebon area, made from beef meat cut in small size then cooked with coconut milk or tamarind. Many restaurants offered this culinary, combined with beef and/or mutton satay. Also they usually sell nasi jamblang, rice mixed with tofuu, tempeh, bean sprout, small slices of cucumber, peanut and tamarind soya sauce. And one of the popular restaurant for this culinary is H. Apud and they have many branches. And after eating this culinary, you might prepare dental floss to free some small meat left between your tooth.
It was packed during our visit. Good food, plentiful seating, parking is quite limited. But my only gripe was the smoke filled venue whose smell will linger long after you leave the restaurant. Our orders: beef satay, simply the best with the spice soaked meat that blends nicely with the BBQ aroma and eaten together with the raw onion, cut chilly paddy, and sauce dip empal gentong, tasty santan style soup with choice of meat, tripe and usus. tahu gejrot, the fried tofu soaked with garlic flavored soy sauce mixed with onion didn't dissapoint me nasi lengko, local rice cuisine mixed with vegetable and peanut based sauce. It was first (and the last time) trying it
