Love the, what I would call, classy basement atmosphere and the real table candles add a romantic touch. The host tried to set us in the bar area again this time in the booth area but we said no. When had made reservations 90 days in advance and driven from Columbus 75 mins) and wanted to dine in dining room. After that was corrected it was perfect. For food we enjoyed: Chicken liver mousse mushroom, onion, pistachio $14) Polenta fried egg, speck, parmigiano $19) Breaded pork loin caper, lemon $29) wood fired branzino zucchini, lemon, calabrian pepper $34) Ricotta Doughnuts $12$ Affogato salted vanilla gelato, espresso, pirouette $12) Definitely would recommend. Pricy if you do a bunch of courses and drinks but there is nothing like the dishes here. Everything We attend was delicious.
No wonder Sotto is always at the top of an award list for most romantic place for a date night and best chef... this underground eatery comes with all the good vibes, excellent service, and delicious dishes. Chef's table was a fun experience to chat with the team and watch the magic happen. Get your reservations in early, you can call in 6 months prior. Gluten free dishes are a plus!
Where to start, whew... this place does not disappoint! If you're not looking for this place, you can definitely pass it. Made a reservation for 8 on a Thursday night, walked in and were seated right away. First thing is its very DIM in here, whew we need light, lol. But very cozy and intimate restaurant. I had the Cappellacci short rib, shallot, thyme for my meal. Others at the table ordered the goat cheese, hazelnut honey, grilled bread I had never tried goat cheese, but this bread is chef's kiss and patate and/or fingerling potato, salsa verde, pepperoncini so good! To drink I had the Almafi (putting it out there to make it to the almafi coast one day). Jason the server was excellent! He went through the menu with us, answered questions and provided answers very patient. Gratuity for large party was added, Jason advises of this when he returned with the checks. If I'm back in the cincy area, definitely will check if they have an opening, it did not disappoint honestly!
If you're lucky enough to snag a reservation don't turn it down. This place does not disappoint. To first time diners here I always recommend the goat cheese bread for your first course and the warm ricotta donuts for a dessert. We tried the tagliatelle con porcini for the first time and loved it. We also got the short rib cappellacci. I highly recommend the Amalfi as a cocktail it's made with their house made limoncello. The service was top notch and the ambience is dark and cozy without being pretentious. If you're in Cincinnati this place is a must .
What a great dining experience. Sotto lives up to its reputation. Starting with top notch service. All the employees were friendly and knowledgeable. Our waiter was on-top of it during the entire time. Coming back and checking in and offering drink and wine recommendations. The food was amazing. We did the tomahawk steak split between four. Cooked medium rare to perfection. Our only regret is we didn't get the donuts for desert. We were stuffed from eating and polishing off two bottles of wine. This is a return place for us, and a recommendation for those who have not tried Sotto.
