Food tastes fine, BUT..... I've had a few dishes from this restaurant, and generally it's ok. It's local. Tonight I had the Honey Lemon Chicken to takeaway and I wish I read the reviews prior! It tasted fine but it was only 6 measly pieces! We also go the peanut sauce dish which was a great, normal sized portion, so comparing the both side by side really added some perspective. I called them about this issue as I thought it was a mistake and they had given me an entree. They said the Honey Lemon Chicken is normally 6 pieces! They didn't offer any compensation nor did they care that the kumara chips were stale. So, buyer beware, if you're looking for an expensive snack then buy this dish. Zaffron is one of my go to places when I want to meet with friends in Christchurch. We booked for 6pm. The place was empty. More people came around 7pm 7.30pm. The food was amazing, as good as always. I had the duck red curry (a house specialty). The flavours were beautiful. My friend had sizzling fish, packed with vegetables. The chocolate brownie dessert was wonderful. Sticky date pudding just ok looked like it came out of a can. The reason for 4 and not 4 stars is that the service was poor. I sat at the table, nobody brought menus, water, just nothing. My friend arrived and was seated. Finally menus came. I got up and got the water myself. Nobody came for ages to take the drinks order and yet the place was empty. Very strange. Once the order was placed things improved. Everything came very promptly. Not sure what the hold up was at the beginning but it was a little off putting. Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4
