I was shocked by the disrespectful behavior of the young female staff member towards me and my elderly mother. The bathrooms and their accessibility were in poor condition.
This cafe, located inside Waterstones bookshop, offers a pleasant atmosphere. The service was good and the coffee and scones were excellent. However, there was a discrepancy in pricing as the menu only listed one price for coffee, but we were charged 20% more. It would be helpful if the staff informed customers of the actual price when ordering. The food looked and smelled delicious, and we would have considered returning for lunch if not for the unexpected price increase on the coffee. The cafe is dog-friendly, but it is situated up a flight of stairs in the shop, making it less accessible for those with mobility issues.
Popped in here for coffee with my Mum in a wheelchair. Latte was one of the best we have tasted. View over the Cathedral is lovely and visit was worthwhile for that alone. Access with a wheelchair through the books is a bit tricky and cafe is not well signposted inside. Worst part is signs for the toilets as the signs send you in the wrong direction. I asked where the toilets were and was told they would show me in a minute but didn't seem to come back. I found the toilet on the 2nd floor but was disappointed with the signage which makes no sense.
The coffee was good and the ambience pleasant and we were surrounded by the tempting variety of new books to read whilst we sat there naturally once we started we had to finish! So we both bought the books we were reading! A risk but a good one!
