I would avoid Son of Butcher for quite some time while the new owner works out the kinks. And there were plenty of them. First, I made a reservation for 6 on OpenTable about 5 days in advance. Upon arriving at the restaurant I was told by the owner that they don't take reservations and that he could not access his OpenTable account to see the reservations that were made. So we waited. We didn't wait long, to my surprise, but he brought us to 3 two-top tables. After explaining that we didn't want to sit in 3 groups of 2 he suggested we wait a couple minutes because a table outside was opening up. 20 minutes later we were seated at tables that accommodated 4 so 2 of us still had to sit at a adjacent table. Seating aside, our server seemed uninterested and getting our food and drinks was painfully slow given how empty the restaurant was that evening. The only redeeming quality of the whole experience were the tacos. If you brave the mediocre service....get the tacos.
Chef Frank is completely on point! Thee service, ambiance most importantly the FOOD, will make this LoganSquare/Avondale area a prime dining location!
Whisk has not done anything well with this place at all. They were out of menus, out of two items we ordered and the food that we did receiver lacked so much flavor.
