Hot Woks Cool Sushi - Chicago

We visited on a Friday night and were seated right away. However, there was a strange smell in the restaurant that faded as we moved further inside. The sushi was mediocre. Our waitress was friendly, but overall, the experience was just okay.

While the server was attentive and put in the effort, I was a bit taken aback when they delivered my order with one hand while balancing several take-out bags in the other. This unfortunately led to their thumb coming into contact with my food, which was concerning. I hope this well-intentioned review encourages some improvements.

This restaurant was just average for me. I've definitely had better ramen and maki elsewhere. The highlight of my meal was the Untraditional Egg Rolls, which had the best flavor. The service was excellent; I was given plenty of time to browse through the extensive menu without feeling rushed or waiting too long. I never had to ask for a water refill, and the food was served quickly. I'm not sure if this place is particularly known for its ramen, but I wouldn't order it again. While the broth was tasty, the noodles were soft and resembled overcooked packaged noodles. The pork belly was also quite bland.

We are city dwellers who adore Chinese cuisine, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. I really appreciate the combination of Chinese dishes and sushi. It's a fantastic spot that caters to a variety of tastes!

The sushi is affordably priced, offering good quality ingredients and reasonably fresh fish. The service is quick, and other dishes like the mandarin chicken, panang curry, and tofu steak were all excellent.
