The baguette had a perfect thin crispy crust with a warm inside served with honeycomb, butter and roasted garlic cloves. Could've eaten a dozen of these. The salmon had a tasty seasoning on top with a generous bed of mushrooms on pureed peas. The cassoulet was hearty with sausage, leg and thigh and pork. The bavette steak was tender and juicy, once again, with an excellent sauce. We ordered the chocolate pot de creme, lemon on pistachio shortbread topped with a flamed meringue, and the bread pudding with figs. All were excellent. Cappuccino froth was a bit on the stiff side, but the port was nice. The Trappist Belgian ale was yummy and played well with all the flavors. It is pricey, but we were celebrating a birthday and it was worth it for a special occasion. With tip it was $260 for three of us.
Had a lovely time here with friends a few weeks ago! It was so nice to have delicious French food in Chicago, and the waitstaff was phenomenal. I don't think we had a single dish we disliked, but you should definitely try the mussels, peach tartine, chicken dish, the lemon tart, and the bread pudding. All in all DELICIOUS! The space is very cozy with dim lighting and small rooms. Two unisex bathrooms all on the ground floor, but there are some small change in floor heights that may be difficult for some walkers.
I can't speak highly enough about the restaurant. It's only my second time visiting, but the second time was the charm. My guest and I were feeling risqué, so we both ordered foods we weren't familiar with. What a surprise...everything was delightful. I had to ask my guest if it was just me because I was suuuuuper hungry (I had just broke a 6day fast), but she assured me that the food was really that good. Service was excellent...thx Kathlene! Kathleen was very helpful in helping make decisions on this adventure. Get the cognac!
We go here every year. Excellent French onion soup and steak frites is top shelf. Yet, any pork dish is the main dish you should go with. The beer selection is outstanding and end with the bread pudding!
I love Bistro Campagne; it's my go-to for big celebrations. The atmosphere indoors is enchanting, and the outdoor seating (ideal during covid) is cozy and magical with so much greenery and vines rising up the brickwork in a garden that is shielded from the noises of the road by fencing and a building. The food is amazing, and although on the pricier side shows care and a shifting menu so you are in for a fresh experience each time. I also love absinthe and you can get a proper experience here with French absinthe and the correct setup if you've never tried it. I had trout almandine and it was conservatively seasoned to emphasize the delicate trout fillet. My companions loved their dishes as well. Friendly, attentive staff and a night we won't forget. I wish I could have had the appetite for dessert. They have reduced hours due to covid, and seating is first come first serve. But, we had no issue with seating on a warm August Saturday. Just try to get there near open if you are worried.
