Gelaterie Marconi Portofino Chiavari

Italy is known to be the country with the best tasting Gelato on the planet. But even in Italy the differences can be great. In one and the same town I found ice-cream as good as it gets and ice cream that tasted not better...than the cheapest kind you find in your local store in the freezer because especially in the big cities quantity all too often goes over quality. I hate it when I try out a new place and the ice-cream doesn't taste good and you spent your money for nothing. By chance I found this place on a trip to Liguria with my boyfriend. The place was recommended to us and it is really highly above average. The ice cream tastes really great (I love the taste Fior di latte and also Pistaccio and they make it soooo incredibly good, it's unbelievable!! and you can also enjoy your ice-cream on chairs outside. I like it when you have a place to sit and relax. They also have something called Granita which also tastes great and comes in several varieties but isn't really like ice-cream in the conventional way. Very close to this place is the promenade and beach of Chiavari which is really nice to walk along and enjoy the ice-cream. We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the place and the friendly service. Finding this Gelateria was the perfect ending for a great day in Chiavari. It's really easy to find this place since it's right at the road along the seaside. Parking spaces are along the street.

I'm German and my family has a vacation home close to Chiavari for more than 50 years now. We know all the places and always like to discover new spots. But there is one place we always return to and it's this Gelateria. Why of...all the many Gelaterias is this one the best? First of all you can see and taste that they use high quality ingredients. The way the ice cream is stored and presented (no moutains of ice cream which is bad for the ice-cream since at the top the cooling isn't secured thus quality suffers) is as good as it gets and how it should be everywhere. I asked the owner and they only use fresh milk and no water to make the ice-cream which is tops in my book. You can see that those guys really put their heart into their work. But they sell something even better than ice-cream. It's called Granita and is a mixture of natural flavors with snow fine ice flakes. This creation originally comes from Sicily and this place is the only one I know who really makes it like you get it down in Sicily. Besides all the great flavors of ice-cream and granita they have I find the prices excellent and the sizes of the portions good. How I discovered the place? I went to a Gelateria just a couple steps away, they used to be my usual place for ice-cream. One day I was treated so unfriendly that I decided not to go there again. That's when I discovered All-Ices and it's been my favorite spot ever since. They even have great coffee and spend as much perfection in making it as in their ice-cream. Another clou is that they offer their ice-cream in styrofoam boxes in various sizes for take away. Nothing better than having a kilo of their ice-cream at home! The service is always friendly, they even speak a little English and the ice-cream is the best. That's all I need to say here. Believe me and try it out, I promise you won't be disappointed!

In perfect location, outdoor tables and a lot of kindness with real competence, great coffee accompanied to an excellent service. Try a coffee.

Made a small appetizer with my friend, we ate well and the staff is very kind. I recommend the fruit alcohol, really good!
