Why do I remember that more than the great food? Gut the thing and renovate it so it won't have that same smell it's had for the last three years. Looking forward to coming back for dinner and drinks soon.
This restaurant was PHENOMENAL. Though they don't have any vegetarian entrees on the menu, they made pasta primavera for my wife and a plate of grilled vegetables for me, both of which were amazing. The free bread was fresh and delicious, and the garlic bread and mashed potatoes were exquisite. Plus the atmosphere is excellent: it's an old building with a little waterfall next to it that we could see out the window, and there's even a fireplace with couches where you can have drinks. This place alone made our drive to Connecticut worthwhile.
As much as I love the Sage group, this is not my favorite restaurant. I 'm originally from a nearby town and so, forgive me, I 've grown tired of it. Anytime you ask someone in the area where to go for a really nice top-of-the-line meal, Sage is the first place they think of. And yes, yes, it is a very nice restaurant on the waterfall of the Pattaconk River with a broad wine list and a menu that can please anyone and consistently delicious food, but the decor and atmosphere are stuffy, dim and drab and the menu rarely, if ever, has anything remotely risky or truly interesting. I 've never gone in there and thought Wow! That sounds exciting- I HAVE to try it! Nor have I ever gone there on a date and said Wow this is romantic. Honestly, I 've always had to remind myself that This guy is trying to impress me. So call this my most wishy-washy review: Food consistently delicious but something is definitely to be desired in the menu and in the atmosphere. However, I will continue to go there as it makes everyone happy.
This Once was a really nice place. Now its just so so. Mediocure food and good to poor service at best. I have heard this from others. Too bad because it is a beautiful setting.
We went there for the first time for a late dinner last night. The first impression walking in the from the parking lot is of the beautiful waterfall and woodsy feel of the place. It really is very charming and has nice lighting in the evening. The food was good. I did have a hard time deciding what to have as a previous reviewer said while everything looks good, nothing really stands out as different or a must try. They have a good selection of steaks and different meat, and one or two fish dishes. This time I went with a vegetarian dish florentine ravioli with sauteed sun dried tomatoes, kalamata olives and pine nuts. It was classicly delicious. My husband got a special which was a wild boar ragu over linguini. Also very good. For dessert he had a strawberry kiwi creme brulee and I had a glass of tawny port. I will definitely be back sometime. On the way out I noticed a big fireplace in the bar area. I could just imagine how cozy it must be in the winter time!
