The food is totally vegan, healthy, healthy, balanced, varied, very tasty and cheaper than what it would cost to make the food at home, 5 RMB (80 cents). Directly before the arrival of Fish Gong and Chimes before 11:40 by the non-speaking meal for cleaning and replacing the bowls and hop sticks, this was used a pleasant meal and experience. It is a shame that more people from this temple do not know how I find more Artistic then the more crowded Wenshu monastery 2 1/2 blocks away. Then again, maybe it's so much better. Make yourself a favor and come to lunch at 11:30 and then enjoy the walk through the Wenshu area to the monastery
We were a bit unsure about it when we got here but the instructions about what to do were spot on. We did exactly as said, we left the 5 yuan per person on the table after we were seated with our two bowls per person, one for the rice and the other for the vegetables. There was a ceremonial singing before the food was served. They served the nuns first and we all had to remain silent during the meal. The food was no frills but you get a lot of it for what you pay. The overall experience makes it all worth it.

When I first heard about this restaurant, I was skeptical. However, while visiting Chengdu, I decided to give it a try for an adventure. Arriving an hour early, I visited a nearby monastery that felt ancient and serene. I then made my way to the restaurant, following the directions of locals. Inside, I met a Spanish man and two other Westerners. We ordered the set menu for 5 yuan and waited. There was music before and after the meal. My dish consisted of a bowl of rice, a white, fluffy bun, several vegetable dishes, and a broad bean soup. While the presentation wasn't appetizing, the food itself was delicious!
I visited this restaurant twice during my time in Chengdu. The first time, some friendly locals helped me navigate the process. On both occasions, I was the only foreigner dining there, but it was popular among the locals. The second time, I had to purchase a voucher near the entrance before being seated. Instead of paying with cash, I placed the voucher on the table and a nun collected it during my meal. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it.
