Cubata - Chaves

This restaurant is found by leaving Chaves via the Roman road and walking for 5 minutes and you will find it in a small square on the left hand side of the road. We had 4 meals with beers and it came to about 40 Euros, this included a vegetarian meal he made up from scratch. It is very popular with the locals so you may have to have a drink outside whilst you wait.

This is a small restaurant specializing in grilled meat and fish. Decor is simple and could use an updating. Most dishes cost less than 10 euros and portions are generous. I would recommend the grilled mix meats. Service was quick and friendly.

This is the only restaurant in Chaves that I know of that serves the traditional Angolan dish called Checken Moamba : palm oil, cassava flour porridge, okra, plantains, wild spinach (kale used here) and stewed chicken. If you would like to try it, you must go on Saturdays when this dish is served. Otherwise you will need to order in advance.

Small restaurant in Chaves but meal was cooked to order and the salmon and robalo was excellent and well seasoned. Simple meal that tasted wonderful. Service was very good. Type of place where if you want a quiet, nice meal without a lot of distractions. Would only recommend for parties of 2 or 4 people.

Nicht gut, nicht schlecht, wir waren spät dran 14:45 Uhr portugiesische Zeit, auf unsere Frage ob es noch etwas zu essen gäbe bekamen wir die Antwort ja. Uns wurde direkt ein Tisch zugewiesen, ich hätte gerne Hähnchen gegessen, dies war aber nicht möglich, mir wurde kurzgebratenes Rindfleisch mit Champions empfohlen, was ich dann auch bestellte. Meine Frau bestellte Bacalau, als Vorspeise hatten wir ensalada mixta und ensalada tropical, letzterer entpuppte sich als wirklich angenehme Überraschung, im Salat waren frische Gambas, Ananas und Apfelstücke, angemacht mit einer Cocktailsauße, die Surumistücke passten auch dazu, ein Volltreffer. Leider kam ich nicht dazu in Ruhe meine Vorspeise zu genießen, da die Hauptspeise bereits auf den Tisch gestellt wurde. Diese war grauenhaft, das Fleisch nicht scharf genug angebraten dröge und zäh, auch Geschmack war nur bei den Champions festzustellen. Der Bacalao meiner Gattin hingegen war vortrefflich, die Portion umfasste zwei Stücke Bacalao und meine Frau ließ mir eines davon zukommen. Die Belegschaft dieses Restaurant ließ uns spüren das wir nicht wirklich willkommen waren aufgrund der späten Zeit schätze ich. Vielleicht versuchen wir in naher Zukunft noch einmal unser Glück.. .
